Board Oversight of AI

This course helps directors evaluate strategic decisions involving AI and hold management accountable for results.

Description

This course helps directors evaluate strategic decisions involving AI and hold management accountable for results. Participants recommend strategic direction and specify how management will account for AI's contribution to organizational purpose, performance, and acceptable risk. Participants evaluate the proposed objective and its material assumptions, compare a credible strategic alternative, establish risk and delegation boundaries, and specify evidence, performance, and reassessment expectations. The main worked paper concerns an $11m partnership and a competing $8m resilience priority. A separate industrial-services assessment concerns a performance contract, capital allocation, and risks to customers. The supplied organizational purpose and board mandate constrain the task; management's proposed objective is open to challenge. The assessment tests participants' reasoning in the supplied case; it does not establish their ability to redesign enterprise governance, judge legal compliance, provide independent assurance, or respond to a crisis. Duration: One full day, including lunch and breaks. No prework is required. Case reading, discussion, and exercises take place during the workshop.
