Governing AI in Business Functions

Turn AI policy into conditions your function can operate and check.

  • 8 hours, including breaks
  • Live, instructor led
  • In person or virtual

The decisions this course helps you make

A successful pilot still needs approval conditions, credible evidence, and people responsible for the controls. This course helps functional leaders translate enterprise AI direction into an approval and control plan for one proposed use.

The initial focus is operations and customer service. Work with supplied policy, impact, and vendor information to make a supported recommendation, assign checks, and plan for changes, concerns, and retirement. Other functions can be addressed through tailoring.

Who should attend

  • Heads of operations and customer service who sponsor, own, or recommend AI uses.
  • Governance, risk, and control owners supporting decisions within those functions.
  • Leaders handing approved uses to managers, quality assurance, and vendor managers.

Before the course

  • AI Judgment and Responsibility for Leaders (LF-20501), or equivalent documented experience in judging AI uses, effects on people, and decision authority.
  • Responsibility for, or a governance role over, decisions in operations or customer service.
  • No legal, audit, procurement, or security qualification is assumed. The course practices recognizing specialist questions and routing them.

What you will practice

  • Evaluate a proposed use against supplied policy and impact requirements.
  • Challenge vendor evidence and identify gaps needing an appropriate reviewer.
  • Develop approval conditions with named owners, ways to verify them, and recipients for the evidence.
  • Plan review triggers, escalation, permitted interim action, and retirement responsibilities.

Course outline

From the first judgment to a defensible decision

Requirements: Policy and Impacts

Link the proposed use and its effects on people to supplied policy requirements, and identify specialist questions.

Vendor and Assurance Evidence

Separate claims from supporting information and identify the reviewer needed for a material gap.

Approval Conditions and Controls

Write practical conditions, assign ownership and checks, and revise the recommendation when a policy extract changes.

Lifecycle Review and the Approval and Control Plan

Plan for change and escalation, then develop an individual approval and control plan for a different use case.

Practice and participant work

Worked examples and guided exercises build the requirements, evidence, control, and review sections. Each participant then writes an individual plan. The original plan is saved before peer critique so feedback and later practice remain distinguishable.

Participant work: An individual approval and control plan for one proposed use of AI, with named owners, checks, and review triggers.

Delivery and tailoring

Live instruction is available in person or virtually. Prepared case materials support the exercises, with explanations, discussion, and feedback. The curriculum does not depend on one technology provider.

Tailoring can incorporate your approved strategy, policies, role names, and reporting conventions after consultation. Discuss your audience, scheduling, and preparation needs with Learn Flourish.
